About the role

Are you passionate about nature recovery and enhancing the environment for communities? At Northumbrian Water, we’re committed to restoring and regenerating the natural systems and wildlife that make our region special and we’re looking for someone who shares that vision to join our Environment and Sustainability team.

This exciting role will play a key part in delivering our Bluespaces programme, which is all about improving the water environment in places where people live, work, and explore. From rivers and reservoirs to beaches and wetlands, Bluespaces are the accessible, beautiful water environments across our region and we want to make them even better for both people and wildlife.

You’ll support the partnership delivery of Bluespaces projects and take a leading role in shaping how we communicate and engage with communities, stakeholders, and colleagues about the work we’re doing. You’ll help us tell the story of Bluespaces, delivering engaging communications both internally and externally, and supporting the development of a vibrant engagement strategy.

Your role will also involve maintaining and updating vital spatial data in our GIS systems, managing internal project governance processes, and keeping project data accurate and up to date to support performance reporting throughout the year. You’ll help run our Bluespaces community grants platform, offering technical support to project partners and ensuring smooth operation.

Working closely with other members of the Environment and Sustainability Team, you’ll support the delivery of Bluespaces projects alongside other environmental initiatives, helping to ensure our work is aligned and impactful. You’ll also be a go-to contact for queries, consultations, and communications related to Bluespaces, helping us stay connected and responsive.

This is a brilliant opportunity to be at the heart of our nature recovery efforts, making a real difference to the environment and to communities across our North East and South East operational areas. If you're motivated by purpose, thrive on collaboration, and love the idea of working for a company where sustainability is a genuine priority, we’d love to hear from you.

The Bluespaces scheme focuses on delivering improvements to areas where the water environment can be accessed and enjoyed by our customers.

About you

We’re looking  for someone with a strong foundation in environmental, geographical, or science-based work, ideally educated to degree level or with equivalent technical experience, who’s ready to make a difference through our Bluespaces programme.

You’ll bring proven experience of working collaboratively with partners and stakeholders, with the confidence and communication skills needed to engage a wide range of audiences. Your ability to write clearly, accurately, and persuasively, combined with visual communication skills, will help bring our environmental projects to life and ensure our messages reach and resonate with communities and colleagues alike.

A strong understanding of GIS is essential, along with experience using it to manage spatial data and integrate information into wider reporting. You’ll also have a knack for interpreting multiple data sets, producing clear, insightful reports that support project delivery and help drive strategic decisions.

You’ll be confident managing your time, balancing priorities, and delivering to deadlines, all while working as part of a passionate, collaborative team. Your attention to detail will ensure our communications are consistently high quality, and your knowledge of Microsoft Office and GIS tools will support you in the day-to-day delivery of the role.

We’re looking for someone who not only understands the importance of environmental stewardship but who lives those values,  someone who brings integrity, commitment, and a real enthusiasm for sustainability to everything they do.
