About the role
We’ve a new opportunity for a Maintenance Technical Planner in the Essex area the role you’ll provide detailed technical support, insight and control to the maintenance operational teams across a range of activities within the water and waste water directorates.
You’ll plan, co-ordinate and review the execution of high complexity activities normally associated with the department’s activities to maintain and repair plant and machinery. You’ll be leading teams containing both internal technicians and multiple contractors and the technical planner will be required to deliver successful outcomes and compliance to all internal and statutory safety control processes particularly Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations, Permit to Work (PTW), Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Risk assessment & NWGs electrical safety policy.
We’re looking for you to drive financial value into the organisation by obtaining best prices for parts and components across a £10mn spend and you will be operating within procurement frameworks where these exist, and with new suppliers, adhering to procurement policy and supporting the contract review process by providing insight into supplier performance and compliance to standards, driving efficiency against budgets through compliance to procurement policies.
You’ll be taking a lead role in ensuring that all statutory inspections are completed in a timely manner in relation to EAWR, COSHH, DSEAR, PUWER etc. We’re looking for you to regularly review performance across your area of responsibility and identify chronic and recurrent issues and devise, develop and implement solutions to these in terms of adjustments to the maintenance plan, local minor modifications or, working closely with the site operational teams, capital investment.
This role has also been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test.

Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked
About you
We are looking for you to have extensive proven maintenance technical experience, along with working in a multi discipline Maintenance team. You’ll have experience of managing minor projects and a demonstrable ability to understand, interpret, evaluate and manage project plans relating to procedural, systems and physical change.
We’re looking for you to have proven experience of a wide range of financial, procurement, logistics, Capital and CMMS business systems and a sound understanding of the broad requirements of technical safety legislation (PUWER, EAWR, PSSR, DSEAR, COSHH, LOLER)
You’ll have a thorough understanding of engineering principles in at least one discipline, along with a detailed working knowledge of internal safety control processes (PTW, LOTO, CDM, Risk Assessment, Electrical Safety Process) and how these are applied and audited.
We’re also looking for you to have a BTEC ONC or HNC in an electrical, mechanical or instrumentation discipline, experience in a leadership & management role and/or qualification in a business-related subject.
We are looking for someone who will be a strong team player who engages with the technicians to enhance our performance across all areas of maintenance and reinforce the strong safety culture within the department.
You will develop strong communication channels with our stakeholders to ensure we deliver a first class service to our customers.
