Maintenance Craft Technician (Mechanical)

Permanent role - 37 hrs core per week

Salary - up to £39,310 per annum + overtime + standby (OTE of £6000 in overtime and standby payments)

Location: Suffolk (Mobile Worker with van and fuel card provided)

 

About the role

 

We are currently looking to recruit a skilled mechanical craft technician (mechanical fitter) within our Maintenance team. You will report to the maintenance manager whereby you will ensure that all mechanical equipment on our Water assets are running both safely and efficiently using both proactive and reactive maintenance methods.

 

NWG offers support and training so that you will be competent in inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, testing, installing, modifying or repairing Mechanical components / machinery as appropriate. Our Maintenance department is ever evolving, with each Technician issued a smartphone and laptop to receive work instructions from a mobile field service app and to provide progress updates to our planning team. You will follow a robust maintenance plan as well as getting involved in minor installation projects.

 

Working outside, with no one day being the same provides a very interesting working environment. You will be presented with unique challenges whether it’s using your expertise to diagnose a fault or complete preventative maintenance to improve plant availability. All tools and equipment are provided supporting Technicians to minimise plant down time 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

 

You will be a fully mobile worker covering the Suffolk region, starting and finishing from home. Please note that once all core and competency training is complete the role requires that you work an out of hour’s 1 in 5 standby rota attracting an annual payment of circa £1,500 however we will ensure that you have the experience required in to do this. Competitive rates for additional payments are made for callouts and any additional hours worked.

 

About you

 

You’ll be a time served mechanical technician (fitter) educated to at least ONC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in mechanical engineering. You’ll be able to demonstrate a maintenance background in reactive breakdowns and planned work, you will be responsible for managing your time efficiently with minimal supervision.

 

The successful candidate will be competent in reading and finding faults from mechanical drawings, identify the source and replacing faulty components. Ideally, you’ll be familiar with maintaining large pumps and other mechanical equipment but have the desire to expand your skill-set with core and module based training which can further improve earning potential with the majority of our Technicians attaining two technical modules attracting circa £2700 in salary payment.

 

We are looking for candidates with a can-do attitude, willingness to learn and explore new ways of working. A hands-on practical approach and keen eye for identifying the route cause whilst investigating problems and implementing solutions is essential as it is a large part of this role.

 

You’ll have excellent communication skills both written and verbally and be a strong team player with. A strong Health and Safety ethic is an important part of our Everybody Home Safe Everyday culture. A basic level understanding of Microsoft office packages including Outlook e-mail and experience with job planning software is desirable as is contractor engagement, but these skills can be developed with the right candidate.
